Birmingham News reports: Birmingham metro area residents doing better than nationwide averages

According to U.S. Census Bureau statistics, 77 percent of cities and towns with more than 20,000 people had income drops since 2000. Not so for Birmingham metro.

"None of the eight cities in metro Birmingham with populations of more than 20,000 had a decline. They saw increases between 9 percent and 26 percent, according to a Birmingham News analysis of the Census data, collected from 2005 to 2007. " These included Birmingham, Homewood, Hoover, Bessemer, Mountain Brook, Pelham and Vestavia Hills and others.

I think we're doing something right.

Almost $50,000 in electronics missing from Bluff Park Elementary, a Hoover School

Read on the internet that a big amount of electronics were found to be missing or stolen from Bluff Park Elementary school. Apparently this happened in the night between November 4th and 5th, and employees found the doors still locked the next day.

Some of the items indicated to be missing were 19 laptop computers, 9 video cameras, 4 projectors (film, I guess) and 2 speaker systems.

According to Hoover police, the items can be identified if found, but I don't think there are any leads.

This is a darn shame, and pretty low. These electronics items were most likely used for the education and improvement of Hoover area school kids and someone has taken them for personal gain. I hope they recover the items and get them back to Bluff Park soon.
